The Danish-American actor Victor Mortensen was born in New York in 1958. He has a Danish father and an American mother. He made his film debut in "Witness" (1985)and has subsequently appeared in a range of different roles. He is probably most famous for his role as Aragorn in "The Lord of The Rings". Originally, Stuart Townsend had been cast for the role, but the director Peter Jackon changed his mind and chose Viggo Mortensen instead. After this role, he had several large roles. Between 2005 and 2007,t wo of these were in films directed by David Cronenberg - "A History of Violence" and "Eastern Promise". They worked together again in 2011 in the film "Dangerous Methods, in which Mortensen plays Sigmund Freud. Apart from acting, Mortensen is also a poet and a photographer.
