MOVIES QUESTION #7637

What is the profession of James Stewart's character in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"?

Scout leader

Explanation

James Stewart is one of the greatest actors Hollywood has seen. He was born in Indiana in 1908 and was in a host of some of the most known films between 1940 and 1970. It was his role as the idealistic scout leader Mr. Smith in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939) that gained him his first fame. Two directors in particular liked working with James Stewart. Alfred Hitchcok used him in "Rear Window" and "Vertigo" but not in "North By Northwest", though Stewart wanted the role. Anthony Mann worked with Stewart in eight of his films. Another highlight of Stewart's career was "It's a Wonderful Life" from 1946, which many families watch every Christmas. Stewart was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1985. He died in 1997, aged 89, in his home in California.
