Explanation

The South American general and nationalist Simón Bolívar (1783-1830) freed Peru (and what was then Bolivia), Venezuela, New Granada (Colombia) and Ecuador from the Spanish together with his general Antonio José de Sucre. He was the most important person in the Latin American fight for independence and is known as 'the man of difficulties' (El Hombre de las Dificultades) and 'the liberator'(El Libertador). He died of tuberculosis. The country Bolivia is named after him.
