When did the Tour de France take place the first time?

Explanation

Tour de France first took place in 1903. The competition was organised and sponsored by the paper L'Auto (later L'Equipe). That first year, there were only 6 stages but they were longer than they are today. The longest stage was the last one, from Nantes to Paris - 467 km. 60 riders entered the race, and 21 made it through. The overall winner was Maurice Garin in 94 hours, 33 minutes and 14 seconds. Lucien Pothier came second.
