Ethiopia is a republic in East Africa. The country has 85 million inhabitants and covers an area of 1,127.127 km². The capital is called Addis Abeba. Ethiopia has never been colonised, but was occupied by Italy 1936-1941. The Blue Nile springs from the Ethiopian highlands. The Awash runs through the Rift Valley all the way through the country. An older name for Ethiopia, in official use until 1941, was Abyssinia.
