Louis XIV (1638 – 1715)is known as the Sun King (French: le Roi-Soleil)and for the words "L'État, c’est moi!" because of his sovereign rule. He also invented the neck tie. During the Thirty Years' War between England and France he saw Croatian Military Frontier in French service wearing colourful neckerchiefs. He liked what he saw, and thus, it became fashionable around the court to wear such a thing. As such, the Sun King invented the neck tie as we know it today.
