The Greek physician Hippocrates (ca. 460 BC – ca. 370 BC) is referred to as the father of Western medicine. After his death, his work was immortalised by his students in the oeuvre Corpus Hippocraticum. In it, there are chapters on anatomy, diagnostics and medicinal ethics - amongst which the Hippocratic oath, which all newly-examined physicians still take to this day.
