Alfred Hitchcock is probably one of the most well-known directors in film history. The Master of Suspense, as he is also known, has an impressive 67 films on his CV, and had his breakthrough with the first British 'talkie' film in 1929, entitled 'Blackmail'. After a few films in Britain he came to Hollywood and started making films in the 1940s. He has given the world some of the very best thrillers including 'Psycho' (1960), 'Rear Window' (1954) and 'Vertigo' (1958). Hitchcock never did get an Oscar, but received an honorary award in 1968.
