MOVIES QUESTION #8718

For his role in which film did Colin Firth receive his first Academy Award nomination?

A Single Man

Explanation

The British actor Colin Firth (born 1960) was born into an academic family - both his parents were lecturers. His talent for acting was obvious from an early age and he started doing tv and films in the 1980s. The tv series "Sense and Sensibility" in which he plays Mr. Darcy gave him his big break. In the film "Bridget Jones' Diary" his character is also called Darcy. He plays opposite Scarlett Johansson in "Girl with a Pearl Earring" from 2003 and repeated his role as Mark Darcy in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason". He received his first Academy Award nomination in 2010 for his role in "A Single Man", and won his first Award the year after, for his performance as King George VI in "The King's Speech". Firth spent part of his childhood in Nigeria and speaks fluent Italien.
