The American film director John Carpenter (born 1948) started directing films at a young age. He was only 26 when he made his debut film "Dark Star" in 1974, and only two years later he made the classic "Assault on Precinct 13" which was ramde in 2005, starring Ethan Hawke. Carpenter has pretty much stuck to the horror genre and other films of his include "The Fog", "The Thing" and "Halloween". In the 1990s, his film making became more sporadic although he is still going strong. In 2010, he directed the film "The Ward". Carpenter believes it brings bad luck to wear a hat during the filming.
