The Australian actor Geoffrey Rush (born 1951) is best known for his role as Captain Barbossa in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films. His CV is much longer than that, however. He stared out in theatre back in 1971, aged 20, but his big break-through on the big screen came with "Shine" in 1996, a role for which he also won an Oscar for Best Male Lead. He played the theatre director in "Shakespeare in Love" and the speech therapist in "The King's Speech". He is good friends with Mel Gibson, with whom he lived during his university years.
