The Irish actor Brendan Gleeson was born in Dublin in 1955. He was very inspired by traditional arts like litterature and theatre in his youth, and had a special fondness for Samuel Beckett. He has had several supporting roles in major productions, as well as a few leads. He plays Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody in the Harry Potter films, and was the king of Sparta, Menelaus, in the film "Troy" (2004). In the latter years he has won larger and larger parts, for instance in the film "In Bruges", which of course takes place in Bruges. Here, he plays opposite Colin Farrel. Before devoting his time to acting, Gleeson was a teacher for 10 years.
