The Conservative politician Margaret Hilda Thatcher (born 1925) became Member of Parliament (MP) in 1959 and was later Secretary of State for Education and Science before she became Prime Minister 1979-1990. She was dubbed the "Iron Lady" because she never bowed to pressure. Among her triumphs is the victory in the Falklands War that Britain fought against Argentina in 1982. Thatcher left the House of Commons in 1992 and has since then been a Member of the House of Lords.
