The great American actor Humphrey Bogart was born in New York in 1899. He is probably best known for his role as Rick in the 1942 film "Casablanca" - by many considered one of the greatest films ever. Other big films in which he stars include "The Maltese Falcon", "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and "The African Queen". The latter won Bogart an Oscar for best male actor. Many film fans, especially male ones, look up to Bogart for his combination of cool and contemplation. Woody Allen used his persona in the 1972 film "Play it Again, Sam", where Bogart becomes Allen's alter ego. Bogart was called "Last Man of the Century" because of his birthday: 25 December 1899.
