His appearance in the 1992 film "One False Move" started opening doors for him. Thornton was cast for "Tombstone" and played the NASA Chief in "Armageddon" from 1998. The Coen Brothers hired him for "The Man Who Wasn't There" where he plays a passive barber. "Bandits" from 2001 in which he stars opposite Bruce Willis is another highlight.
