American film director and actor Sydney Pollack was born in 1934 in Indiana, but moved to New York to pursue his acting career, though he started off directing tv shows. He remains most famous for his work behind the camera and won an Academy Award for his 1985 film "Out of Africa". Other highlights of his career include "Tootsie", starring Dustin Hoffman and "The Firm". The last film Pollack directed was "The Interpreter" (2005). He died in 2008, aged 73.
