His break-throgh came in 1958 with the film "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" for which he also gained his first Academy Award nomination. After this, he became Mr. Hollywood, and highlights of his career include "Cool Hand Luke" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". His last film was "Road to Perdition" where he starred opposite Tom Hanks. Newman once said he had burned his tuxedo on his 75th birthday, because he was done with formalities.
