Helmut Kohl was born 3 April 1930 and is a German politician and statesman. He was Chancellor of Germany from 1982 until Gerhard Schröder and SPD won a landslide election on 27 October 1998. This makes him the longest serving Chancellor since Otto von Bismarck. Kohl's biggest success as a politician was the reunification of Germany, which officially took place on 3 October 1990. Helmuth Kohl also headed the CDU party from 1973 until 1998.
