Grenada is a small Caribbean island state located north of Trinidad and Tobago. It has around 100,000 inhabitants. The capital is called St. George's. The country consists of the island Grenada itself and the islets Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The first exploration of Grenada was led by Columbus in 1948. From the 1650s, Grenada became a French colony, but later, in 1762, became part of the British empire. In 1974 the country gained independence.
