This was the highlight of his career, fighthing against Jan Ullrich, who had won the year before. Pantano had nicknames such as 'Il Pirata' and 'Elefantino'. Marco Pantani died from an overdosis of cocaine in a period where he suffered from depression and was thought to have been doping himself also.
