The flag of Germany (in German: die Bundesflagge) is a tricolour consisting of three equal horizontal bands displaying the national colours of Germany: black, red, and yellow. Because of the colours, the flag is also known as "Schwarz-Rot-Gold". The flag first became the official German flag in the Weimar Repulic from 1919 to 1933 and was reintroduced as the national flag in 1949 - in both the GDR and the then Federal Republic.
