THE HUMAN QUESTION #2967

What is the role of the alpha-cells in the hypophysis?

Production of growth hormone

Explanation

The hypophysis or pituitary gland is a hormone-producing gland placed off the bottom of the hypothalamus at the base of the brain. In an adult it is approximately the size of a blackcurrant and weighs around 0.5 grams. The pituitary gland produces and secretes hormones such as prolactin and growth hormone and secrets from the hypothalamus such as vasopressin and oxytocin. The hyphophysis controls many of the body's other glands.
