Sandro Botticelli (ca. 1445-1510) was an Italian painter active in Florence. His main works include "Primavera" (Spring)(1482) and The Birth of Venus (1485), which are influenced by the ideals of humanism. Boticelli's talent was discovered early. In the 1470s he was commissioned to work for the powerful Italian noble family, the Medicis. In the 1480s, he was called to Rome and worked on frescoes in the Sistine Chapel for Pope Sixtus IV and later founded his own workshop.
