The Italian painter Masaccio (1401-ca.1428) is considered, alongside Giotto, as one of the most important Italian painters of the early Renaissance. In cooperation with another Renaissance painter, Masolino, he painted the frescoes of the Brancacci Chapel of the Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence with motifs drawn from the life of the apostle Peter. Another of his main pieces is the fresco of the Trinity (ca. 1427) in the Santa Maria Novella of Florence.
