HISTORY QUESTION #2392
Which year did a huge tsunami sweep through many parts of Asia whilst many tourists were on their Christmas break in the area?
2004
Explanation
On 26 December 2004 a massive tsunami hit several parts of Asia. Before, a massive underwater earth quake measuring 9.3 on the Richter scale had taken place. This in turn triggered one of the worst tsunamis ever recorded. Around 300,000 people were killed in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Myanmar, the Maldives, Malaysia, Bangladesh and even some places in East Africa. The disaster received a lot of media attention before many tourists on their Christmas holidays were amongst those killed.
