Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937) was a New Zealand-British atomic physicist who won the Nobel prize in chemistry in 1908. Rutherford researched into radioactivity and atoms and discovered and named alpha- and beta radiation. He also noticed that radio active material always used the exact same time to half its activity. He used this observation to e.g. determine the age of Earth.
