Air Canada is a Canadian national air carrier, founded on the basis of Trans-Canada Airlines which has roots back to 1936. The company is headquartered in Montreal in Air Canada Centre, also known as La Rondelle ('the puck', after the Canadian national sport ice hockey). The first flight took place on 1 September 1937 - two passengers and plenty of mail was on board for the trip between Vancouver and Seattle. In 1987, Air Canada became the first air carrier to become 100% smoke free. Air Canada is a member of Star Alliance.
