Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998) was a Japanese film director and script writer. Kurosawa is probably Japan's most well-known director and one of the 'grand old men' in film history. He is particularly well known for his philosophical and action-inspired samurai-films such as 'Rashômon' (1950), 'Seven Samurai' (1954) and 'Throne of Blood' (1957) but also social realism such as 'To Live' (1952). Kurosawa directed 30 films in a career spanning 57 years.
