Alexander Fleming was a Scottish doctor and bacteriologist. He is credited with discovering penicillin. Whilst working at London's St. Mary's Hospital in 1928 he discovered that a certain kind of fungi prevented the growth of bacteria, and that the fungi also excreted a bacteria-killing serum. Alexander Fleming received the Nobel Prize in 1945 for his discovery.
