Bangladesh is a sovereign state located in South Asia. It is bordered by India and Myanmar. Around 150 million people live in the country which covers an area of 144,000 kmĀ². The capital is called Dhaka. The country is relatively young but has nevertheless had a turbulent history with dictatorship until it turned democratic in 1992. Until 1971 the country was called East Pakistan. That year it gained independence from West Pakistan, today just known as Pakistan. Until 1947, the country was a British colony.
