In 1960, Jacques Piccard and lieutenant Donald Walsh managed to make it to the bottom in their vessel Trieste. At the bottom they were surprised to see sole, flounder and shrimp.The pressure at the bottom is 1,072 times higher than at sea level. The trench was formed when one tectonic plate was pushed down by another plate.
