Lada is a Russian car brand with a yearly production of around 780,000 cars. The original factory in the city Togliatti by the Volga River in central Russia started as a co-operation between Italy and the Soviet Union. A whole new part of the city Togliatti, named after an Italian communist, was built around the car factory, which was to produce an 'every man's car' like VW or Citroën 2CV. The name Lada is borrowed from a famous, Czech manufacturer of sewing machines in the 1960s.
