Lada is a Russian car brand with a yearly production of around 780,000 cars. The original factory in the city Togliatti by the Volga River in central Russia started as a co-operation between Italy and the Soviet Union. A whole new part of the city Togliatti, named after an Italian communist, was built around the car factory, which was to produce an 'every man's car' like VW or Citro├źn 2CV. The name Lada is borrowed from a famous, Czech manufacturer of sewing machines in the 1960s.
