Asia minor is the Latin and old Greek name for the large peninsula which today makes up the Asian part of Turkey. It is better known as Anatolia. In the antique, the area was inhabited by Hellenic tribes but in the Middle Ages, Turkish tribes arrived from Mongolia where they had been nomades. Inner Anatolia is a central plateau which has cold winters and is sparsely populated.
