Which was one of the first animals that man domesticated?

Explanation

The domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is probably the first animal to have been domesticated by man. Throughout time, the dog has been used for many purposes: for hunting, in war, as a tracker, as a rescue dog, or just as a loyal friend. Because of the various 'roles', the dog has been bred into many races - today, more than 800 exist! Amongst the most famous dogs are Laika, the first dog in space and the collie Lassie, known from film and tv-series.
