Chess, the board game is played by two players on a square chessboard, divided into 64 squares. Each player has from the outset a set of 16 chess pieces consisting of a king, a queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops and eight pawns in black or white. White always makes the first move. Chess computer Deep Blue became the first machine to beat a reigning world champion when it defeated Garry Kasparov in 1997. Other names of historical chess computers are Bebe, Belle, Chip Test, Cray Blitz, HiTech, Deep thought, Hydra and Houdini.
