MOVIES QUESTION #7550

Which film gained Heath Ledger his first Academy Award nomination?

Brokeback Mountain

Explanation

The Australian actor Heath Ledger (1979-2008) is one of many actors to gain further fame after his death. He died in his home in New York, only 28 years old, after an overdose. He was honoured with an Oscar post-humously for his role as the joker in 'The Dark Knight' - probably the role for which he will be best remembered. The last film he recorded, however, was Terry Gilliam's 'The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus'. Ledger's break-through came in 1999 with '10 Things I Hate about You'. He was Oscar-nominated in 2005 for his role as a gay cowoby in the film 'Brokeback Mountain'. Other big roles include 'Monster's Ball' from 2001 where he plays Billy Bob Thornton's son.
