Burundi is a country in central Africa. The country has seen many bloody conflicts between its two main tribes, the Hutu and Tutsi. These conflicts escalated into a civil war, which ravaged the country between 1993 and 2003. The capital is called Bujumbura. The country has 9 million inhabitants and covers an area of 27,834 km2. Burundi was a Belgian colony until it gained independence in 1962.
