The band had its international breakthrough in 1963 with the song "She Loves You (Year Yeah Yeah)" which like the majority of their songs was written by Lennon and McCartney. The band's concerts were marked by hysterical incidents, and in 1966 the band stopped touring. The band split up in 1970.
