Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455), b. Lorenzo di Bartolo, was an Italian sculptor and art theorist of the early Renaissance. He is best remembered for the sculpture "Porta del Paradiso" ("The Gate of Paradise") on the baptistry of Florence (1425-1452). He also wrote the work in art theory "Commentarii", composed of three parts on ancient art, the art of the late 13th century until Ghiberti's times, and the theory of art and optics.
