The Tiber (in Italian: Tevere, in Latin: Tiberis) is with its 406 kms the third longest river in Italy after the rivers Po and Adige. It rises in the Apennine mountains in Emilia-Romagna and then flows west into the Tyrrhenian Sea. The river drains a basin of around 18.000 km². Rome was founded on the banks of this river.
