Hedgehogs are mammals. As newborn, the hedgehog have approx. 90 soft spikes, while the adult hedgehog have 5-7,000 spikes and weighing 800-1200 grammes. Hedgehogs are almost omnivorous and eat small mammals and reptiles, like worms, snails, insects and nuts. They only eat larger animals if they find them as carcasses. The hedgehog gives birth to 3-5 cubs. If you want to help hedgehogs with food in your garden, you can put water down and throw dry cat food in the grass. Hedgehogs can not tolerate milk. The cubs die from drinking milk and the adults get upset stomach.
