SPORTS QUESTION #4883

There is a memorial to Tom Simpson, who died on this mountain in 1967. What is the name of the mountain?

Mont Ventoux

Explanation

Mount Ventoux (1,912 metres) is a mountain in Provence that is often used in Tour de France. The mountain is called 'the bald mountain' because of the bare limestone which covers the last 6 km to the summit. During a stage on July 13 1967, the British cyclist Tom Simpson fell off his bike, some 1.5 km from the summit. He died from heat exhaustion and amphetamine and alcohol intake.
