Roman Polanski was born in Paris to Polish parents in 1933. He survived holocaust and started making films. His first feature film was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign-language film, but it instead went to Fellini's '8 1/2'. Since then, he has enjoyed tremendous success with films such as 'Rosemary's Baby', 'The Pianist' and 'Chinatown', set in 1970s Los Angeles. His latest film is from 2010, called 'The Ghost Writer', and stars Ewan McGregor.
