SPORTS QUESTION #657

Which cyclist won Tour de France five times in a row in the 1990s?

Miguel Indurain

Explanation

The first half of the 1990s, the Tour de France solely belonged to the Spaniard Miguel Indurain, who rode for Team Banesto. In 1991, Miguel Indurain was supposed to support Pedro Delgado, but not long passed before the roles were inversed. When Miguel Indurain was finally allowed to ride for himself, he showed a class of his own, winning the race five times in a row. Indurain also tried to win in 1996, but was beaten by Bjarne Riis.
