Elizabeth Arden, real name Florence Nightingale Graham (1878-1966), originally trained as a nurse, but later went into skin- and beauty care. In 1910 she opened her own little clinic on 5th Avenue in New York with the characteristic red door, which has since been used for Arden clinics all over the world. The door and the street name also inspired the perfumes Red Door and 5th Avenue. Upon Elizabeth Arden's death, the company consisted of over 100 clinics worldwide.
